The recommended location for installing DT Max is "C:\Program files\DT Max". However, during the installation process, you will be given the opportunity to locate it elsewhere on your computer if you prefer.

When you install DT Max, the following subdirectories will be created to your main DT Max directory:

  • kb
This subdirectory will contain the knowledge base files.

If you wish your knowledge base to be located elsewhere, the DT Max customization features allow you to create a "kb" subdirectory anywhere on your network and enter that location in DT Max. To do so, choose User interface in the Preferences menu and enter the knowledge base path, that is the directory in which you created the "kb" subdirectory (do not include "kb".)

  • log
This subdirectory will serve diagnostic purposes only. Do not touch it unless specifically directed to do so by our technical support team.

  • demot1
This subdirectory will contain the T1 demo database and can only be created if that option has been selected as one of the components to install.

  • demot2
This subdirectory will contain the T2 demo database and can only be created if that option has been selected as one of the components to install.

The database containing your client files can be located anywhere on your local computer or network. You should choose a location that is accessible to all potential users of DT Max in your office. It is recommended to avoid having your client database located in the same directory as the DT Max system files.

In the database directory, DT Max will create a number of sub-directories to organise the database files in a logical structure. Sub-directoires T1, T2 and T3 will be created to contain personal data for your T1 clients, company data for your T2 clients, and trust data for your T3 clients respectively. Each of these will be further divided into separate directories for each year for which data is entered (2001, 2002, 2003, etc.).
